CNC Swiss Machining of an Aluminum Stem for the
High Pressure Gases Industry

Known for our command of CNC Swiss machining, Kilgore Manufacturing Company, Inc. was contracted by a Virginia company to build a high-performance 2011-T3 aluminum stem for use within a high-pressure air system application. Strictly following the customer-supplied print in addition to our own 3D surface model, we employed our Citizen M32 Swiss-style lathe to insert grooves and drill holes throughout each part as per client specifications. We then applied O-rings to each stem and followed up by assembling them into the main component. Having conducted a thorough pressure testing, we were ready to begin shipping the components to our client

The precision of our craftsmanship made a notable impact: what began as raw material with O.D. of 13/16″ was machined to measure 3.25″ inches in length, an external thread of ¼ NPTF, and a hex width of .688″. The tightest tolerances were as close as +/- .002″. After we achieved a 32 RMS surface finish and applied a clear anodized coat, it became clear just how well we had achieved the sure exactitude of Swiss machining.
